Racing Etiquette

Be a good driver

The Number 1 priority is to have fun (and maybe win!) while allowing others to have fun too

This isn’t banger racing! You must drive with due care and consideration for your fellow competitors (and marshals) at all times. It’s a small track and there will always be racing incidents and accidental contact so here’s some guidance to be a courteous driver:

On the Rostrum

  • Be courteous to the other drivers and marshals
  • Try not to obscure the view of the track for the other drivers
  • No swearing, verbal or physical aggression
  • Do not shout at the marshals or other drivers
  • If you make a mistake and collide with another car, let the other driver know you’re sorry otherwise it looks like you did it on purpose
  • If your car crashes/stops on the straight — announce loudly ‘Car on the Straight’ then announce when ‘Clear’
  • Be patient with Marshals — their safety is priority
  • Do not step off rostrum until end of race. This means when all drivers have finished, not just you
  • If leaving the rostrum during a race is unavoidable, do so via the side corridor – do not enter a live track

During the race

  • If you and another driver are competing for position wait for an appropriate time to overtake — even if you have a faster car— DO NOT BULLY your way through, make a pass as safely as possible
  • No overly aggressive driving or retaliation
  • NEVER rev the throttle when being marshalled or your car will be left or removed from track
  • Do not cut the track — penalties can be applied. If you accidentally short cut, wait for a marshal or wait long enough to ensure no advantage is gained. This applies even if due to a crash which is not your fault
  • Do not marshal your own car

Race referee

  • We aim to have a Race Referee watching every race. The Referee is there to help you. Listen to their direction
  • The Race Referee’s decision is final – there is no arguing or abusing the Race Referee
  • If you disagree with the Referee’s decision, please discuss with the Race Director/Chairman after the race
  • Failure to comply with the Referee’s direction or to the guidance detailed above will lead to penalties. These can range from time penalties to race/championship diqualification and club ban
